***The Tail of Emily Windsnap

by Liz Kessler

Reviewed August 24, 2004.
Candlewick Press, Cambridge, Massachusetts, 2004.  Originally published in Great Britain in 2003.  209 pages.
Available at Sembach Library (JF KES).

Emily Windsnap’s mother is terrified of the water.  It seems a little strange, since they live on a boat.  When Emily finally convinces her mother to let her take swimming lessons, she loves the feeling of being in the water.  Until something strange happens.

Emily has to figure out what’s going on.  She goes into the sea that night, and her legs fuse together and turn into a tail.  When she’s in the water, she’s a mermaid!

This is a fun, light-hearted story about a girl learning who she really is and finding her family and true friends.
