***Say Cheese, Medusa!Myth-O-Mania, Book Threeby Kate McMullan Reviewed June 19, 2005.
Hyperion, New York, 2002. 192 pages. Here is more delightful fun from Kate McMullan, the third book in the Myth-O-Mania series. Hades tells us the real story of Medusa, not the one that old liar, Zeus, put out to make himself and his son look good. You probably heard that Perseus cleverly killed Medusa by using his shield as a mirror? You probably think she was an ugly old Gorgon? Well, according to Hades, Medusa the moon goddess is alive and well and running a health resort. You’ll find out exactly how the story got twisted if you read this book. Say Cheese, Medusa! seemed longer to me than the other books in the series, but by now readers will be hooked. There’s lots of fun here. You’ll learn about the myths, and you’ll also see how dramatically different a story can look from a different person’s perspective. Great fun!
