****911The Book of HelpAuthors Respond to the Tragedyedited by Michael Cartwith Marc Aronson and Marianne Carus
Reviewed April 5, 2004.
Cricket Books, Chicago, 2002. 178 pages. I know, I know, another book about September 11th? This book had more than twenty children’s writers responding to September 11th in many different forms—essays, poems and short stories. I found it more helpful and more moving than most books for adults I’ve read about the tragedy. I partly read this book because it’s time to either send it back to the book rental company or keep it on our library shelves. The Twin Towers disaster happened two and a half years ago, so I thought maybe the book would be a good book for its time, but something we no longer needed. Now that I’ve read it, I think this “Book of Help” stands as something that transcends the time for which it was written. This is a book that makes you reflect, helps you cope, and gives you hope.
