****Nelson Mandela's Favorite African Tales

Reviewed May 15, 2003.
W. W. Norton and Company, New York, 2002.  143 pages.

By now all my readers know that I love fairy tales.  These folktales have all the elements of traditional tales that I love, but they were all new to me, coming from Africa, instead of from the European tradition I’m familiar with.

This book contains thirty-two delightful tales, told by expert storytellers.  The stories are illustrated with thirty-two magnificent paintings by thirty-two different artists.  The finished product is a wonderful resource of stories for families to enjoy together.
