***Stephen Biesty's Castleswritten by Meredith Hooperillustrated by Stephen BiestyReviewed September 13, 2005.
Enchanted Lion Books, New York, 2004. 48 pages. Available at Sembach Library (J 940.1 HOO). This book features Stephen Biesty’s fabulously detailed cross-sectional drawings and focuses on ten actual castles from all over the world. The accompanying text focuses on one person who might have lived in the castle on a fateful day in that castle’s history. We see the Tower of London on the day of Anne Bolelyn’s coronation. We see Krak des Chevaliers when it is under siege by Crusaders. And we see details of Neuschwanstein on a winter night as King Ludwig takes a sleigh ride to stay there shortly before his death. I love castles, and have visited four of the ten featured in this book. This is an entertaining and interesting look at castles and their history.
