***The Dragon QuintetFive Original Short Novelsedited by Marvin KayeReviewed November 18, 2004.
Tor, New York, 2004. 301 pages. This book is a collection of long stories (or short novels) about dragons by the great fantasy authors Orson Scott Card, Mercedes Lackey, Tanith Lee, Elizabeth Moon, and Michael Swanwick. There’s nothing stereotypical about these stories, and each one is strikingly different from all the others. As a rule, I tend to like Young Adult fantasy better than fantasy stories for grown-ups. I find that it tends to get more wrapped up in the details than I care about. In this short form, that isn’t a problem. Each story has a mythic simplicity, weaving a haunting tale. Reviews of other books by these authors: Enchantment, by Orson Scott Card Sarah, by Orson Scott Card A War of Gifts, by Orson Scott Card The Fairy Godmother, by Mercedes Lackey One Good Knight, by Mercedes Lackey The Snow Queen, by Mercedes Lackey Sleeping Beauty, by Mercedes Lackey Beauty and the Werewolf, by Mercedes Lackey Take a Thief, by Mercedes Lackey Wolf Queen, by Tanith Lee Wolf Wing, by Tanith Lee Copyright © 2004 Sondra Eklund.
