***Essential Venice

by Tom Pocock

Reviewed March 8, 2004.
Little, Brown and Company, Boston, 1991.  128 pages.
Available at Sembach Library (914.531 POC).

I liked this travel guide because it was small and light enough to bring along in my bag when I actually visited Venice.  Although it was published in 1991, the notes on the important sights were not out of date, nor was the handy map in the front of the book.  You do a lot of walking in Venice, so it’s nice to have a guidebook that’s so light you won’t notice it.  Now if only it could have kept off the rain!  It did, however, give me an idea of a museum to see that would keep us out of the rain for a couple of hours, so it definitely helped.
