Here’s a fun little book, loaned to me by Leah, my knitting buddy.
Elizabeth Zimmermann was a guru of knitting, as I know from reading
Knitter’s
Magazine. Reading this book has helped me to understand why.
The
Knitter’s Almanac takes you through a year with Elizabeth
Zimmermann as she creates a new project each month. Her chatty style
is delightful, and her love of knitting is contagious. She shows her
creative way of “un-venting” new techniques and patterns and creating as
she goes.
Personally, I’m a follow-directions type of person, and it’s hard for
me to imagine tackling the free-and-easy style of knitting that she advocates.
She does include “pithy directions” for each project for people like me.
I’d like to try some of her designs some day. Meanwhile, I’m hoping
that this book helped me to lighten up about my knitting and feel more free
to make my knitting be what I want it to be. I also enjoyed the wonderful
company of a delightful lady and expert knitter.
