Sketches from Memory

by Edmund White

with drawings by Hubert Sorin

Reviewed March 5, 2006.
HarperCollins, New York, 1994.  143 pages.
Available at Sembach Library (944.361 WHI).

Edmund White and Hubert Sorin lived together in Paris, and collaborated on this book in the months before Hubert Sorin died of AIDS.

The book consists of vignettes about their life in Paris with their dog Fred.  There are amusing sketches, both with pictures and words, of the characters they met and the places they’d been.  I enjoyed this book because I like anything that give me a taste of being in Paris.
