***Poem a Day, Volume 2A Wide Range of Classic and Modern Poemsedited by Laurie SheckReviewed January 10, 2005.
Steerforth Press, South Royalton, Vermont, 2003. 422 pages. Back in 2002, I reviewed A Poem a Day and mentioned how I’d read poems at bedtimes to my son. I think in 2003 I read through that first book again, but at the start of 2004, I discovered that the publishers had brought out a second volume. Again, they have a selection of poems for each day of the year. I didn’t like this collection quite as well as the first volume, since it seemed there were more modern poems and less that I was already familiar with. On the other hand, this means that it exposed me to many more new poets than the other book did. I don’t remember to read a poem every day, but when I get back to it, I simply read from my bookmark up to the current date. Reading one poem each day from this book exposes me to poetry and new poets. But it also gives me a quiet moment to think or to simply enjoy the beauty of a poem. For 2005, I've been given Volume 3. I'm looking forward to another year of poetry. Have you ever thought you should read more poetry? A Poem a Day is a nice way to put some poetry in your life.
