***The World of William Steig

by Lee Lorenz

introduction by John Updike

Reviewed May 25, 2004.
Artisan, New York, 1998.  208 pages.
Available at Sembach Library (741.5973 LOR)

I’m familiar with William Steig’s work mostly through his children’s picture books.  However, he also spent years writing and drawing cartoons and covers for The New Yorker.  This oversize book is a retrospective of his work, telling about his life and showing the progression of his art through the years.  It makes interesting and entertaining reading.
