****The Blue Day Book for KidsA Lesson in Cheering Yourself Upby Bradley Trevor Greive Reviewed August 27, 2005.
Andrews McMeel Publishing, Kansas City, 2005. 44 pages. Available at Sembach Library (E GRE). Sonderbooks Stand-out 2005 (#6, Picture Books) “Have you ever had a blue day? A blue day is a day when nothing goes right and you feel kind of lousy. You might feel grumpy, lonely, really shy, or just plain pooped.” The words of this book may sound like a typical, somewhat trite children’s book. What makes the book stand out are the animal pictures that perfectly illustrate each emotion or action suggested by the text. When this book came in, I had a group of adults looking through it and laughing at the pictures. I brought it home, and my ten-year-old picked it up and started laughing at it. If you’re feeling blue when you start reading this book, I guarantee you’ll still be able to find a chuckle at these faces of animals who seem to perfectly portray human emotions. The suggestions for cheering yourself up aren’t too bad, either. Copyright © 2005 Sondra Eklund. All
