***The Xanadu Adventureby Lloyd Alexander Reviewed May 12, 2005.
Dutton Children’s Books, New York, 2005. 145 pages. I was delighted when our library got its copy of a new Vesper Holly Adventure by Lloyd Alexander. Now, I’m a much bigger fan of Lloyd Alexander’s fantasy books than of his historical novels. However, his books about Vesper Holly, the fearless heroine, are good swashbuckling fun. In The Xanadu Adventure, Vesper Holly and her longsuffering guardian Brinnie are off again to exotic places. This time, they want to see the recently discovered site of the ancient city of Troy. It will come as no surprise to old fans that they are waylaid by their archenemy, Dr. Helvetius. He again has a nefarious scheme, and it again takes all of Vesper Holly’s daring and cleverness to get them out of it.
