{"id":148,"date":"2008-06-28T22:16:41","date_gmt":"2008-06-29T02:16:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sonderbooks.com\/blog\/2008\/06\/28\/review-of-lion-boy-audiobook\/"},"modified":"2008-10-13T20:46:05","modified_gmt":"2008-10-14T00:46:05","slug":"review-of-lion-boy-audiobook","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sonderbooks.com\/blog\/?p=148","title":{"rendered":"Review of Lion Boy Audiobook"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image230\" height=\"140\" alt=\"lionboy_audio.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/sonderbooks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/lionboy_audio.jpg\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Boy <\/em><\/p>\n<p>by Zizou Corder<\/p>\n<p>read by Simon Jones<\/p>\n<p>Audio Adventures.\u00a0 8 1\/4 hours on 7 compact discs.<\/p>\n<p>I reviewed the print version of <em>Lion Boy <\/em>years ago at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sonderbooks.com\/ChildrensFiction\/lionboy.html\">http:\/\/www.sonderbooks.com\/ChildrensFiction\/lionboy.html<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, I did not go straight on to read the next two volumes of the story &#8212; so I completely lost the thread of what was happening.\u00a0 When <em>Lion Boy <\/em>was a selection for the Fairfax County summer reading program, it seemed like the perfect time to refresh my memory, so I listened to the book on CDs.\u00a0 (And I&#8217;m happy to report that I have already begun the second book, so I am not going to let it go this time.)<\/p>\n<p>How to say this without sounding derogatory?\u00a0 I&#8217;m finding audiobooks perfect for the sort of light-hearted book that doesn&#8217;t absorb me quite enough to keep me reading late into the night.\u00a0 Yes, the book is very interesting, but since I generally only get to listen in fifteen-minute stretches, audiobooks work well with a book that keeps me mildly interested over a long period of time.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not sure I defined it exactly right, but I never did get around to reading the <em>Lion Boy <\/em>sequels, but I found myself eager to listen to them.\u00a0 I&#8217;m finding there&#8217;s a certain type of reading that I enjoy more as listening.<\/p>\n<p>And again (as with all the audiobooks I&#8217;m reviewing lately), the narration was marvellous.\u00a0 The book had songs with music inserted in the text, and of course the audio version included these.<\/p>\n<p>This is another good family story that would make great listening for a family vacation.\u00a0 The hero is a kid, but he gets into some tight places, and the whole family will find themselves hoping Charlie finds a way to save his parents, and his friends the lions.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/1565118316\/sonderbooksco-20\" target=\"outside\">Buy from Amazon.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Find this review on the main site at:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sonderbooks.com\/Childrens_Fiction\/lionboy_audio.html\">www.sonderbooks.com\/Childrens_Fiction\/lionboy_audio.html<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Boy by Zizou Corder read by Simon Jones Audio Adventures.\u00a0 8 1\/4 hours on 7 compact discs.
