That time of the week when I play with language by looking at the German translation of children&#8217;s books, or, in this case, the German translation of an English classic, <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sonderbooks.com\/Fiction\/prideandprejudice.html\">Pride and Prejudice<\/a>,<\/em> Stolz und Vorurteil.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sonderbooks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Stolz_und_Vorurteil.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/sonderbooks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Stolz_und_Vorurteil.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"Stolz_und_Vorurteil\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-22078\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sonderbooks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Stolz_und_Vorurteil.jpg 400w, https:\/\/sonderbooks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Stolz_und_Vorurteil-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve taken a few weeks off from Sonderling Sunday due to a month-long headache, and I&#8217;m really glad to be back!  During that time, I did some comfort reading, rereading this old favorite, so it&#8217;s a good time to choose this favorite for Sonderling Sunday.  We already looked at <a href=\"https:\/\/sonderbooks.com\/blog\/?p=17080\">Chapter One<\/a> back in January, so I will start in on Chapter Two, <em>Kapitel 2<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s start with the first sentence, even though it&#8217;s nowhere as classic as the first sentence in Chapter One:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Mr. Bennet was among the earliest of those who waited on Mr. Bingley.&#8221;<br \/>\n= <em>Mr. Bennet geh\u00f6rte zu den ersten, die Mr. Bingley ihre Aufwartung machten.<\/em><br \/>\n(&#8220;Mr. Bennet belonged to the first, that Mr. Bingley their waiting made.&#8221;)<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;disclosed&#8221; = <em>enth\u00fcllt<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;trimming a hat&#8221; = <em>ihren Hut mit einem Besatz zu versehen<\/em><br \/>\n(&#8220;her hat with a trimming to equip&#8221;)<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;resentfully&#8221; = <em>\u00e4rgerlich<\/em> (&#8220;annoyed&#8221;)<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;assemblies&#8221; = <em>Gesellschaften<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;selfish, hypocritical&#8221; = <em>egoistisch und scheinheilig<\/em><br \/>\n(&#8220;egoistic and appearing-holy&#8221;)<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;scolded&#8221; = <em>auszuschimpfen<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Have a little compassion on my nerves.&#8221;<br \/>\n= <em>Nimm doch ein wenig R\u00fccksicht auf meine Nerven.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;no discretion&#8221; = <em>keinen Takt<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This one we know from commercials:<br \/>\n&#8220;my own amusement&#8221; = <em>meinem Vergn\u00fcgen<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;fretfully&#8221; = <em>gereizt<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the word from the title, <em>Vorurteil<\/em>, there translated from &#8220;prejudice.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;advantage&#8221; = <em>Vorurteil<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;circumspection&#8221; = <em>Umsicht<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But if we do not venture&#8221; = <em>Aber wenn wir nicht den Mut dazu haben<\/em><br \/>\n(&#8220;But if we do not have the courage&#8221;)<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Nonsense!&#8221; = <em>Unsinn!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;emphatic exclamation&#8221; = <em>energische Protest<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;deep reflection&#8221; = <em>tiefe Betrachtungen<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;something very sensible&#8221; = <em>etwas sehr Verst\u00e4ndiges<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;astonishment&#8221; = <em>Verbl\u00fcffung<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;neglect&#8221; = <em>geringzusch\u00e4tzen<\/em> (&#8220;low-to-value&#8221;)<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;a good joke&#8221; = <em>ein h\u00fcbscher Scherz<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a nice long word:<br \/>\n&#8220;raptures&#8221; = <em>Begeisterungsausbr\u00fcche<\/em> (&#8220;enthusiasm outbreaks&#8221;)<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;fatigued&#8221; = <em>\u00fcberdr\u00fcssig<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;stoutly&#8221; = <em>beherzt<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;conjecturing&#8221; = <em>mit Mutma?ungen dar\u00fcber verbracht<\/em><\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s it for Chapter Two.  A few fun new words to try to work into conversation.  My favorite has to be the longest.
