I&#8217;m still hoping that the phrases I choose to translate, while obviously being tremendously practical, will also intrigue readers into picking up this book, without giving away spoilers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;straying&#8221; = <em>streunten<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Hmm.  What does this translation say about the title?<br \/>\n&#8220;freakish&#8221; = <em>seltsamer<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;extinct&#8221; = <em>ausgestorben<\/em> (&#8220;out-died&#8221;)<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;his skin became bark-like&#8221; = <em>seine Haut aus wie Borke<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;sneaked&#8221; = <em>schlichen<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;muttered scathing insults&#8221; = <em>murmelte bei\u00dfende Beleidigungen<\/em> (&#8220;murmured biting insults&#8221;)<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;deliriously colored butterflies&#8221; = <em>berauschend bunte Schmetterlinge<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Interesting that English is more efficient here:<br \/>\n&#8220;prodded&#8221; = <em>stupste mit einem Finger<\/em> (&#8220;poked with a finger&#8221;)<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;trudged&#8221; = <em>schlurfte<\/em><\/p>\n<p>You never know when you&#8217;ll need to say this:<br \/>\n&#8220;beeping crystal-like flowers&#8221; = <em>piepsenden kristallartigen Blume<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Amazingly&#8221; = <em>Verbl\u00fcffenderweise<\/em><\/p>\n<p>And how handy to know the German word for this, for your next vacation!<br \/>\n&#8220;secret dissection lab&#8221; = <em>geheimen Sezierlabor<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;colorful guts&#8221; = <em>bunte Innereien<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Should we be worried that I find this fun to say?<br \/>\n&#8220;sliced into sheets&#8221; = <em>in Scheiben geschnitten<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;stole&#8221; = <em>stibitzte<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;furry starfish&#8221; = <em>pelziger Seestern<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Another fun one to say:<br \/>\n&#8220;roar of shock&#8221; = <em>erschreckte Schrei<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;campaign&#8221; = <em>Schlachtplan<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;funeral&#8221; = <em>Beerdigung<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s become harder and harder to fritter away the entire day.&#8221;<br \/>\n=<em>Es wird immer schwerer, den ganzen Tag nur herumzuh\u00e4ngen.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Okay, I can&#8217;t get past that sentence, when I look at the clock!  I&#8217;m going to call it a night.<\/p>\n<p>Some fun words to say tonight.
