{"id":27142,"date":"2015-03-29T22:52:57","date_gmt":"2015-03-30T02:52:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sonderbooks.com\/blog\/?p=27142"},"modified":"2015-03-29T23:47:11","modified_gmt":"2015-03-30T03:47:11","slug":"sonderling-sunday-das-buch-der-tausend-tage-day-33","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sonderbooks.com\/blog\/?p=27142","title":{"rendered":"Sonderling Sunday &#8211; Das Buch der Tausend Tage, Day 33"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s time for <a href=\"https:\/\/sonderbooks.com\/blog\/?cat=184\">Sonderling Sunday<\/a> &#8211; that time of the week when I play with language by looking at the German translation of children&#8217;s books.<\/p>\n<p>Today I&#8217;m back to the book I love so much in English, <a href=\"https:\/\/sonderbooks.com\/blog\/?p=16948\">Shannon Hale<\/a>&#8216;s <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sonderbooks.com\/Teens\/book_of_a_thousand_days.html\">Book of a Thousand Days<\/a><\/em>, <em>Das Buch der Tausend Tage<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sonderbooks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Buch_Tausend_Tage1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/sonderbooks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Buch_Tausend_Tage1.jpg\" alt=\"Buch_Tausend_Tage\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-27144\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sonderbooks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Buch_Tausend_Tage1.jpg 400w, https:\/\/sonderbooks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Buch_Tausend_Tage1-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sonderbooks.com\/blog\/?p=26896\">Last time<\/a> I looked at this book, I left off ready to begin <em>Tag 33<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>This is a random sentence, early on, that I think could be handy to know:<br \/>\n&#8220;Or was it right to let her sleep?&#8221;<br \/>\n= <em>Oder war es richtig, sie schlafen zu lassen?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s another good sentence:<br \/>\n&#8220;You&#8217;re an antelope who bounds through life.&#8221;<br \/>\n= <em>Ihr seid eine Antilope, die durchs Leben h\u00fcpft.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;feverish hot&#8221; = <em>lichterloh<\/em><\/p>\n<p>And who knows but when you might need to say this?<br \/>\n&#8220;Your ankles are skinnier than a jackrabbit&#8217;s ribs.&#8221;<br \/>\n= <em>Eure Kn\u00f6chel magerer sind als die Rippen eines Hasen.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;trying to hold in the laugh made me snort like a camel&#8221;<br \/>\n= <em>das unterdr\u00fcckte Lachen brach sich in einem kamelartigen Schnauben Bahn<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I like the way this sounds:<br \/>\n&#8220;didn&#8217;t want to wake the guards&#8221;<br \/>\n=<em>die Wachen nicht wecken wollte<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;How my side ached!&#8221;<br \/>\n= <em>Ich hatte solches Seitenstechen!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;laughing with&#8221; = <em>herumzualbern<\/em> (Google: &#8220;fool around&#8221;)<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;my skin tingling&#8221; = <em>einem Prickeln auf der Haut<\/em><\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s a special word for tears of laughter:<br \/>\n&#8220;I&#8217;d wiped the tears from my face&#8221;<br \/>\n= <em>ich mir die Lachtr\u00e4nen abgewischt hatte<\/em><br \/>\n(&#8220;I from myself the laugh-tears wiped had.&#8221;)<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;wild dog&#8221; = <em>Wildhund<\/em> (Nothing surprising there, but always fun to say.)<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;crazy&#8221; = <em>wahnwitzig<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I always like the long words:<br \/>\n&#8220;sword practice&#8221; = <em>Schwertkampftraining<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;swimming while dry&#8221; = <em>trockenen K\u00f6rpers schwimmen<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;shy&#8221; = <em>sch\u00fcchtern<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;ease suffering&#8221; = <em>lindern Leiden<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;resting my head on my hands&#8221; = <em>st\u00fctzte den Kopf in die H\u00e4nde<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;squinting&#8221; = <em>mit zusammengekniffenen Augen<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;something furry that mewed&#8221;<br \/>\n= <em>etwas Flauschiges Maunzendes<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;riverbed clay&#8221; = <em>Lehm im Flussbett<\/em><\/p>\n<p>And this one rhymes:<br \/>\n&#8220;heartache&#8221; = <em>Herzschmerz<\/em><\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s it for Day 33.
