That time of the week when I play with language by looking at the German translation of children&#8217;s books.<\/p>\n<p>Today I&#8217;m back to <em>Pu der B\u00e4r<\/em>, by A. A. Milne, better known to English speakers as <em>Winnie-the-Pooh.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sonderbooks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Pu_der_Bar.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/sonderbooks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Pu_der_Bar.jpg\" alt=\"Pu_der_Bar\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-30597\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sonderbooks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Pu_der_Bar.jpg 600w, https:\/\/sonderbooks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Pu_der_Bar-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sonderbooks.com\/blog\/?p=28245\">Last time we looked at <em>Pu<\/em><\/a>, we finished <em>Kapitel Drei<\/em>, so today we&#8217;ll look at Chapter Four &#8212; &#8220;<em>In Which<\/em> Eeyore Loses a Tail and Pooh Finds One,&#8221; which is to say, <em>In welchem I-Ah einen Schwanz verliert und Pu einen findet.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I like lots of parts of the first sentence:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Old Grey Donkey, Eeyore&#8221; = <em>Der alte graue Esel, I-Ah<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;a thistly corner of the forest&#8221; = <em>einem distelbewachsenen Winkel des Waldes<\/em><br \/>\n(&#8220;a thistle-overgrown angle of the forest&#8221;)<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;his front feet well apart&#8221;
