That was my conversation with a stranger-I-just-met on the Exhibit Hall floor, talking about the free books we aren\u2019t capable of resisting.<\/p>\n
If you consider yourself a Book Addict \u2014 No ALA conference will ever cure you. \u00a0And you\u2019ll be surrounded by other Book Addicts confronted with piles of their drug of choice.<\/p>\n
I DO want to proudly declare that yesterday,\u00a0I did not step into the Exhibit Hall even once!<\/em> \u00a0 However \u2014 today I went to a Scholastic Preview where they gave me a bag of six Advance Reader Copies. \u00a0Combined with the four signed books I got yesterday and the books I\u2019m going to get by going to the Morris Award ceremony \u2014 I know it\u2019s already more than I can comfortably carry in my suitcase and carry on. \u00a0(I could fit them, but I\u2019m not supposed to carry heavy things.)<\/p>\n So \u2014 since I decided I needed to do another shipment \u2014 might as well make the shipment count! \u00a0I went into the Exhibit Hall and began taking ARCs. \u00a0In about two minutes, I\u2019d filled my rolling bag. \u00a0After about five minutes, both the bag and a tote bag were full.<\/p>\n The good news \u2014 There is a post office in the Exhibit Hall. \u00a0The bad news is that it closes before the exhibits do, so you have to plan things carefully. \u00a0But this is where my lightning-quick bag-filling came in handy. \u00a0I had plenty of time.<\/p>\n And this is where the Book Addicts hang out. \u00a0I had a nice conversation while waiting in line about our mutual problem. \u00a0I even saw someone I\u2019d encouraged yesterday about grabbing ARCs and told her you can ship them home. \u00a0Always happy to Enable a new friend!<\/p>\n I should say that the employees at the Atlanta post office today were extra helpful! \u00a0A man was putting boxes together for us and bringing around tape. \u00a0I shipped two flat-rate boxes. \u00a0I didn\u2019t count how many books it was, but I will when I get back.<\/p>\n I like to use middle-grade ARCs as prizes for a games program. \u00a0When the books are prizes, they are all the more valued, and may get read.<\/p>\n As my friend told me when I was shipping my first box, \u201cIt\u2019s for the children<\/em>!\u201d \u00a0I don\u2019t have a problem at all\u2026.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" \u201cIt\u2019s a sickness.\u201d \u00a0 \u201cAt least we all have it.\u201d That was my conversation with a stranger-I-just-met on the Exhibit Hall floor, talking about the free books we aren\u2019t capable of resisting.
