Niko likes to draw feelings.<\/p>\n

When Niko was inspired,
\nit felt like a window
\nopening in his brain.<\/p>\n

An idea would flit through the
\nopen window like a butterfly,
\nflutter down to his stomach,<\/p>\n

then along his arm and fingers to his pencils,
\nwhere it would escape onto his paper in a whirlwind of color.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

No one understands Niko\u2019s drawings and what they mean. If he draws the hard work of a mother robin building her nest, they expect to see a bird or a nest \u2013 not hard work. If he draws the warm of the sun on his face, they expect to see the sun or his face, not the warm.<\/p>\n

His friends don\u2019t understand. His parents don\u2019t understand. His teacher doesn\u2019t understand.<\/p>\n

But then a girl named Iris moves next door, and she gets it. When she looks at Niko\u2019s drawings, she feels something.<\/p>\n

The next thing Niko draws is the feeling of friendship.<\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t expect to like this book as much as I did. Honestly, I\u2019m still a little skeptical about drawing feelings. And a little skeptical that this new girl could catch on so well.<\/p>\n

But \u2013 there\u2019s something about that feeling when somebody finally gets you. This book delivered that feeling and warmed my heart.<\/p>\n
