{"id":33822,"date":"2017-11-06T23:46:37","date_gmt":"2017-11-07T03:46:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sonderbooks.com\/blog\/?p=33822"},"modified":"2017-11-06T23:46:37","modified_gmt":"2017-11-07T03:46:37","slug":"review-of-full-of-fall-by-april-pulley-sayre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sonderbooks.com\/blog\/?p=33822","title":{"rendered":"Review of Full of Fall, by April Pulley Sayre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sonderbooks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/full_of_fall_large.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/sonderbooks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/full_of_fall_large.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"205\" height=\"250\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-33860\" \/><\/a><em>Full of Fall<\/em><\/p>\n<p>by April Pulley Sayre<\/p>\n<p>Beach Lane Books (Simon &#038; Schuster), 2017.  40 pages.<br \/>\nStarred Review<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve got a new favorite Autumn storytime book.<\/p>\n<p><em>Full of Fall<\/em> tells about the changes in a forest in Autumn \u2013 with stunning photo illustrations and simple but not trite rhyming verse.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s an example of the text for two spreads, with appropriately shaded brightly colored leaves under these words.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Hello, yellow.<br \/>\nGreetings, gold.<br \/>\nOh \u2013 it\u2019s orange!<br \/>\nRed, be bold.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The book begins with the start of fall as the leaves change \u2013<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>One leaf,<br \/>\nAnother leaf.<br \/>\nColors surge.<br \/>\nMeet the trees!<br \/>\nTheir shapes emerge.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>(Had you ever noticed that when a forest of trees change to different colors, it\u2019s now easier to see the shapes of individual trees?)<\/p>\n<p>And ends with leaves fallen, on the forest floor, and geese flying overhead.<\/p>\n<p>As with so many Autumn books, the last page foreshadows the coming of winter \u2013 with a photo of snow falling on colored leaves.<\/p>\n<p>The text is simple enough for a baby storytime, but the photos and concepts are interesting enough for a preschool storytime.<\/p>\n<p>The large photos make this book extraordinary \u2013 but the well-chosen words make it readable.
