That time of the week when I play with language by looking at the German translation of children\u2019s books, sort of a Very Silly Phrasebook for Travelers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sonderbooks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Buch_Tausend_Tage.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/sonderbooks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Buch_Tausend_Tage.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-36451\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sonderbooks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Buch_Tausend_Tage.jpg 400w, https:\/\/sonderbooks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Buch_Tausend_Tage-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A couple weeks ago at the Newbery Banquet, I met Shannon Hale again, and she mentioned that she&#8217;d sent me a copy of the German version of <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sonderbooks.com\/Teens\/book_of_a_thousand_days.html\">Book of a Thousand Days<\/a><\/em>, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sonderbooks.com\/blog\/?s=book+of+a+thousand+days\">Das Buch der Tausend Tage<\/a><\/em>, for Sonderling Sunday.  So in her honor, I&#8217;m going back to this lovely book tonight.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sonderbooks.com\/blog\/?p=35959\">Last time we looked at this book<\/a>, we left off at the start of Day 268.  The first sentence of that day is one I&#8217;d really like to know how to say in German:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;She&#8217;s devoured our dried fruit, every crumb, and all the sugar&#8217;s gone but dust.&#8221;<br \/>\n= <em>Sie hat unsere Trockenfr\u00fcchte verschlungen und vom Zucker ist nur noch ein wenig Staub \u00fcbrig.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Too bad.
