Here\u2019s a fun picture book that teaches kids the scientific names of the large bones in their bodies. It\u2019s framed as the story of a skeleton pirate whose bones got scattered.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s silly, and the story is thin, but the rhymes are a lot of fun, and it actually works. I used it in a storytime this morning and the preschoolers enjoyed it and learned a few big words along the way.<\/p>\n

Here are some examples:<\/p>\n

Give me back my breastbone
\nthe center-of-my-chest bone
\nthe hold-my-ribs-the-best bone \u2013
\nreturn my sturdy sternum\u2026.<\/p>\n

Find my upper arm bone,
\nthe shield-my-face-from-harm bone,
\nthat armpit-of-alarm bone \u2013
\nI hanker for my humerus.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

He\u2019s got a pegleg in place of one tibia and fibula set. As the skeleton finds his bones, we see him take shape until he\u2019s ready to captain an undersea pirate ship. <\/p>\n
