Today, I&#8217;ll look at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sonderbooks.com\/Standouts2015.html\">books I read in 2015 and still remember fondly<\/a>.  And as I look at the page, I see some really good ones.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For Grown-Ups<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sonderbooks.com\/Fiction\/dreamers_pool.html\">Dreamer&#8217;s Pool<\/a><\/em> and <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sonderbooks.com\/Fiction\/tower_of_thorns.html\">Tower of Thorns<\/a><\/em>, by Juliet Marillier<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The beginning of a wonderful new fantasy series by Juliet Marillier, with some in-depth looks at healing from abuse.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sonderbooks.com\/Fiction\/martian.html\">The Martian<\/a><\/em>, by Andy Weir<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An amazingly realistic book about an astronaut left behind on Mars and how he survives.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sonderbooks.com\/Fiction\/coincidence_of_coconut_cake.html\">The Coincidence of Chocolate Cake<\/a><\/em>, by Amy E. Reichert<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A delightful romance where the couple truly knows and values one another.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sonderbooks.com\/Fiction\/lovelace_and_babbage.html\">The Thrilling Adventures of Babbage: The (Mostly) True Story of the First Computer<\/a><\/em>, by Sydney Padua<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A graphic novel about Ada Lovelace and Charles Babbage actually building the Analytical Engine and programming it.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sonderbooks.com\/Fiction\/girl_on_the_train.html\">The Girl on the Train<\/a><\/em>, by Paula Hawkins<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A psychological thriller with lots of twists and turns.  It&#8217;s all about what a girl sees from the train.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sonderbooks.com\/Nonfiction\/hope_and_other_luxuries.html\">Hope and Other Luxuries: A Mother&#8217;s Life with a Daughter&#8217;s Anorexia<\/a><\/em>, by Clare B. Dunkle<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An author tells what it&#8217;s like to try to help her daughter in a struggle with anorexia.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sonderbooks.com\/Nonfiction\/furiously_happy.html\">Furiously Happy: A Funny Book About Horrible Things<\/a><\/em>, by Jenny Lawson<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Jenny Lawson, The Bloggess, has the gift of making you laugh uproariously at indeed horrible things, such as mental illness and medical insurance fiascos.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sonderbooks.com\/Nonfiction\/searching_for_sunday.html\">Searching for Sunday: Loving, Leaving, and Finding the Church<\/a><\/em>, by Rachel Held Evans<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A lovely book about why people are disillusioned with church, but especially about what the church should look like to truly represent Christ to the world.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sonderbooks.com\/Nonfiction\/deeper_dating.html\">Deeper Dating: How to Drop the Games of Seduction and Discover the Power of Intimacy<\/a><\/em>, by Ken Page<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A lovely book about dating that takes the approach of finding and appreciating your own core strengths and the things that give you joy rather than trying to change yourself.  I&#8217;m going to enjoy rereading this now that I&#8217;m finally dating someone.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sonderbooks.com\/Nonfiction\/did_god_kill_jesus.html\">Did God Kill Jesus? Searching for Love in History\u2019s Most Famous Execution<\/a><\/em>, by Tony Jones<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is the book that showed me that the way I&#8217;ve been taught since childhood to look at Jesus&#8217; death isn&#8217;t even the majority view in the church.  The book lays out different historical views along with scriptural support for each one.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For Teens<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sonderbooks.com\/Teens\/rook.html\">Rook<\/a><\/em>, by Sharon Cameron<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Another science fiction retelling of <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sonderbooks.com\/Fiction\/scarletpimpernel.html\">The Scarlet Pimpernel<\/a><\/em>!  As far as I&#8217;m concerned, there can never be enough.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sonderbooks.com\/Teens\/story_of_owen.html\">The Story of Owen: Dragon Slayer of Trondheim<\/a><\/em> and <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sonderbooks.com\/Teens\/prairie_fire.html\">Prairie Fire<\/a><\/em>, by E. K. Johnston<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dragons, dragon slayers, and bards in modern day Canada.  Plus a beautiful portrayal of friendship.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For Children<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sonderbooks.com\/Childrens_Fiction\/hollow_boy.html\">The Hollow Boy<\/a><\/em>, by Jonathan Stroud<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The adventures of Lockwood &#038; Co, an ghost-hunting agency run by children, continue in alternate-reality England &#8212; with ghosts.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sonderbooks.com\/Childrens_Fiction\/unusual_chickens.html\">Unusual Chickens for the Exceptional Poultry Farmer<\/a><\/em>, by Kelly Jones<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A girl&#8217;s family inherits a farm and they&#8217;re learning to run it &#8212; when she discovers they own chickens with magical powers.  Good silly fun.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sonderbooks.com\/Childrens_Nonfiction\/really_big_numbers.html\">Really Big Numbers<\/a><\/em>, by Richard Evan Schwartz<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mind-bending ideas about the biggest numbers you can possibly imagine &#8212; and how to go even bigger.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sonderbooks.com\/Picture_Books\/madame_martine.html\">Madame Martine<\/a><\/em>, by Sarah S. Brannen<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A picture book about a woman who lives in Paris and never visits the Eiffel Tower &#8212; until a little dog intervenes.  This book made me decide to go out and visit tourist sites in Washington, DC, close to where I live.  (This was a good plan until the pandemic hit.)<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sonderbooks.com\/Picture_Books\/troll_and_the_oliver.html\">Troll and the Oliver<\/a><\/em>, by Adam Stower<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is one of my favorite books to read for storytime.  I try to make them jump when Troll comes out.  Don&#8217;t worry &#8212; it&#8217;s got a happy ending.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sonderbooks.com\/Picture_Books\/meet_the_dullards.html\">Meet the Dullards<\/a><\/em>, by Sara Pennypacker, illustrated by Daniel Salmieri<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The parents in the Dullard family try to protect their kids from excitement, but there&#8217;s a rebel in their midst.
