{"id":103,"date":"2008-04-20T20:57:42","date_gmt":"2008-04-21T00:57:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sonderbooks.com\/sonderjourneys\/2008\/04\/20\/not-even-fun\/"},"modified":"2008-04-20T20:57:42","modified_gmt":"2008-04-21T00:57:42","slug":"not-even-fun","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sonderbooks.com\/sonderjourneys\/?p=103","title":{"rendered":"Not Even Fun"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m reading a book called <em>The Bait of Satan, <\/em>by John Bevere.\u00c2\u00a0 The bait of the title refers to the trap of taking offense.<\/p>\n<p>I got to thinking that when we think of lures from Satan, we usually think of fun things &#8212; lust, food, alcohol, some form of pleasure.\u00c2\u00a0 We think of Satan as trying to get us to overindulge.<\/p>\n<p>Taking offense with someone is an even more pervasive trap &#8212; and it isn&#8217;t even fun!\u00c2\u00a0 This trap ensnares us, and we don&#8217;t even get some pleasure out of it.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Like all Satan&#8217;s traps, this bait is disguised.\u00c2\u00a0 It feels <em>right; <\/em>it feels <em>just.<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0 After all, that person we are offended at did something <em>wrong.<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0 We don&#8217;t realize that Satan&#8217;s trap is all wrapped up with our own pride.<\/p>\n<p>And who suffers because we take offense?\u00c2\u00a0 We suffer ourselves.\u00c2\u00a0 Perhaps that&#8217;s why what feels like pursuing justice doesn&#8217;t end up being the best way to get justice at all.\u00c2\u00a0 &#8220;It is mine to avenge, I will repay,&#8221; says the Lord.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m reading a book called The Bait of Satan, by John Bevere.\u00c2\u00a0 The bait of the title refers to the trap of taking offense.
