This is not some newfangled idea, either.  Our spiritual ancestors &#8211; from Clement of Alexandria, to Augustine of Hippo, to John Chrysostom, to Anselm of Canterbury, and <em>many<\/em> others &#8211; have often articulated an understanding of God as containing many gendered aspects.
