{"id":606,"date":"2008-09-07T19:07:32","date_gmt":"2008-09-07T23:07:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sonderbooks.com\/sonderquotes\/2008\/09\/07\/revisioning-work\/"},"modified":"2008-09-07T19:07:32","modified_gmt":"2008-09-07T23:07:32","slug":"revisioning-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sonderbooks.com\/sonderquotes\/?p=606","title":{"rendered":"Revisioning Work"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One problem with the word <em>work<\/em> is that it has come to be equated with drudgery, and is considered degrading.\u00c2\u00a0 Now some work <em>is <\/em>drudgery, though it is not always degrading.\u00c2\u00a0 Vacuuming the house or scrubbing out the refrigerator is drudgery for me, though I find it in no way degrading.\u00c2\u00a0 And that it is drudgery is lack in me.\u00c2\u00a0 I enjoy the results and so I should enjoy producing the results.\u00c2\u00a0 I suspect that it is not the work itself which is the problem, but that it is taking me from other work, such as whatever manuscript I am currently working on.\u00c2\u00a0 Drudgery is not what work is meant to be.\u00c2\u00a0 Our work should be our play.\u00c2\u00a0 If we watch a child at play for a few minutes, &#8220;seriously&#8221; at play, we see that all his energies are concentrated on it.\u00c2\u00a0 He is working very hard at it.\u00c2\u00a0 And that is how the artist works, although the artist may be conscious of discipline while the child simply experiences it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212; Madeleine L&#8217;Engle, <em>Sold Into Egypt, <\/em>quoted by Carole F.
