**The Day the Fifth Grade Disappeared

by Terri Fields

Reviewed September 18, 2002.
An Apple Paperback, 1992.  91 pages.

My third grader got this book as part of a RIF donation at his school.  I saw it on the breakfast table and picked it up and was intrigued.  Why did the fifth grade disappear?  It made a nice quick read over a leisurely breakfast.

This isn’t one of those children’s books that are so good that I urge even adults to read them.  Still, it was a fun story, albeit a light and fluffy one.  The plot was coincidence-laden and there were no subplots or profound ideas.  I’d recommend it to about third through fifth graders.  It’s not difficult reading, and the mystery will keep them going.
