****Wren's Warby Sherwood Smith Reviewed September
12, 2004.
Firebird Books (Penguin), New York, 2004. First published in 1995. 210 pages. Sonderbooks Stand-out 2004, #2, Children's Fantasy Here’s a third wonderful book about Wren and her four friends, Teressa, Tyron, and Connor. Wren’s War opens when the evil Andreus attacks the kingdom and kills Teressa’s parents. Teressa must learn to act as a queen, leading an army. The rest each have a different mission for bringing about Teressa’s victory. The friends are getting older, reaching their teens, but I still think this is a book that upper elementary kids will enjoy, all the way up through teenagers. I may try reading this series to my 5th grade son after we finish the series we’re working on now. There’s plenty of action, adventure, and cleverness as they struggle against the dark lord Andreus. I’m thrilled that Sherwood Smith’s website tells us that she’s working on another book in the series. (See my page Links for Book Lovers for a link to her site.)
