***The Barefoot Book of Knightsby John Matthewsillustrated by Giovanni MannaBarefoot Books, Cambridge, MA, 2002. 80 pages. Available at Sembach Library (J 398.2 MAT) This book is a collection of tales about knights. The stories come from many different lands, including Russia, Persia, Japan, Germany, France, and Britain. I wasn’t crazy about the frame tying them together, the story of Tom of Warwick, who’s training to be a knight. However, the stories themselves are well-told. These are hero tales anyone can enjoy, from young boys all the way up to adults like me.
