***The Barefoot Book of Knights

by John Matthews

illustrated by Giovanni Manna

Reviewed January 1, 2003.
Barefoot Books, Cambridge, MA, 2002.  80 pages.
Available at Sembach Library (J 398.2 MAT)

This book is a collection of tales about knights.  The stories come from many different lands, including Russia, Persia, Japan, Germany, France, and Britain.  I wasn’t crazy about the frame tying them together, the story of Tom of Warwick, who’s training to be a knight.  However, the stories themselves are well-told.  These are hero tales anyone can enjoy, from young boys all the way up to adults like me.
