****Earth from AboveRevised and Expanded Editionby Yann Arthus-Bertrandtranslated by David BakerReviewed August 24, 2004.
Harry N. Abrams, New York, 2002. 462 pages. Available at Sembach Library (OS 779.3609 ART). Sonderbooks Stand-out 2004, #2, Other Nonfiction I already reviewed Earth from Above: 365 Days, which had pictures taken from the original edition of Earth from Above. Those pictures were amazing, but were in a small format. This amazing book has all of the stunning photographs of Yann Arthus-Bertrand in all their oversize splendor. This is the ultimate coffee table book. The photographer has taken pictures from the air of places all over the earth. Each individual picture is a beautiful work of art, so their collection in one volume is overwhelming. The accompanying text, by many different authors, focuses on environmental issues that face the people of earth and that are highlighted by these amazing pictures. Even though I had seen most of the pictures in the smaller book, I could look at these stunning images over and over again. They show the amazing variety of our beautiful planet.
