****Knopf GuidesScotland Reviewed July 29, 2003.
Alfred A. Knopf, New York, 2001. 324 pages. Available at Sembach Library. In this case, I liked the Knopf Guide better than the Dorling Kindersley Guide. Both are very similar, with lots of photographs. Neither wastes a lot of space on hotel addresses. The Knopf guide seemed to cover more territory, with some nice special features on certain places. This was the book that got my interest piqued in Staffa Island, which ended up being my favorite excursion of the trip. The Knopf Guide also includes many Scottish paintings, which were especially interesting after we visited the Scottish National Gallery. There is also a lengthy section at the beginning with 104 pages of interesting background information. Even though I couldn’t visit every region of Scotland covered in the itinerary section, the background information applied to the whole country. Copyright © 2005 Sondra Eklund. All
