***Where Inspiration Lives

Writers, Artists, and Their Creative Places

edited by John Miller and Aaron Kenedi

Reviewed March 21, 2004.
New World Library, Novato, California, 2003.  108 pages.
Available at Sembach Library (810.9 WHE).

Here’s a lovely little book about the places that have inspired people who create art, whether written or painted.  Each chapter highlights a different writer or artist, telling the importance of a certain place in their lives, whether using their own words or someone else’s.  Photographs are included, and in the cases of artists, examples of their work are shown.  After seeing a picture of Walden Pond, I have a completely new understanding of why Thoreau was eager to live there.

Some of the creators included are Georgia O’Keeffe, Eudora Welty, Henry David Thoreau, Anne Rice, and Larry McMurtry.  This is a fun book to browse through.  It’s not heavy reading, but a nice, meditative sort of book.
