Here’s an excellent book on writing. I began reading it at the same time as I took an online writing workshop. The two messages resonated together, talking about a character who wants something but is confronted with obstacles and then takes action. These thoughts helped me come up with a new idea for a book.

Jerry Cleaver gets down the essential elements of stories and helps you find and create them. There’s good advice here for writers of fiction at any level.
