***Hiawatha and Megissogwonby Henry Wadsworth Longfellowillustrated by Jeffrey ThompsonNational Geographic Society. 2001. 32 pages. Available at Sembach Library (J 811.3 LON). This book is from the book-length poem, “The Song of Hiawatha.” The language is grand and fun to read. Definitely for reading aloud. I read it to my youngest, and his father and older brother listened in, too. A little something different from the usual picture book fare, it tells the story of Hiawatha’s battle with an evil magician.
