*****Anne of the Island

by L. M. Montgomery

Reviewed January 31, 2002.
A Sonderbooks' Best Book of 2002 (#1 Young Adult and Children's Classic Rereads)
Many different editions are available.  Originally written in 1915.  244 pages.

Available at Sembach Library (JF MON).

This is the third book in L. M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables series.  In this book, Anne goes off to college, enjoys independence, and finally figures out who she’s in love with.

Rereading this book brought me straight back to my college years.  My roommate and I wanted to have our own “Patty’s Place,” like Anne and her friends.  We named our room “Colleen’s Corner,” and “Sondy’s Snuggery.”  There’s no time like that, when you first are out on your own.  Fun, intellectual stimulation, ambitions, and romance--They’re all part of the college experience and all part of this book.

As always, I find L. M. Montgomery’s books a breath of fresh air.
