Sonderbooks Stand-out 2005 (#4, Children's Nonfiction)

What a delightful way to learn about forms of poetry.  Paul B. Janeczko explains and gives an example of 29 different poetic forms, including sonnets, villanelles, haiku, clerihews, and pantoums.  The examples clearly illustrate the explanations, and there are some excellent poems included.

Chris Raschka’s flamboyant illustrations of course add to the fun.

My favorite poem of all is “A Limerick Called Steven.”  This very silly poem demonstrates what the rules are by breaking them.
