In Spectacular Cross-Section

by Stephen Biesty

text by Andrew Solway

Reviewed May 15, 2003.
Scholastic, New York, 2003.  29 pages.
Available at Sembach Library (J 937 BIE).

This fascinating book shows Rome at the height of its power, with drawings in incredible detail.  The authors take us through a day in the life of a boy and his Senator father.  They attend a festival, the Colosseum, the baths, and the Circus Maximus, among other Roman landmarks.  Each place is shown for us, inside and out.  You could keep looking at this book for hours and come up with new details each time.
