***The Ring of Truth

by Teresa Bateman

Reviewed August 1, 2002.
Holiday House, 1997.  32 pages.

Here’s a fun story set in Ireland.  Patrick O’Kelley is famous for his tall tales and blarney.  When he brags that he can spout better blarney than the king of the leprechauns himself, the king of the leprechauns decides to teach him a lesson.  He takes Patrick into his grand halls and gives him a ring.  After Patrick puts it on, he learns that it’s the Ring of Truth, and now he can never tell anything but the plain truth.

There’s a nice twist ending as to how this affects Patrick’s life.  A fun story with glorious pictures using Celtic designs as trim.
