Sonderbooks Stand-out 2005 (#6, Picture Books)

“Have you ever had a blue day?  A blue day is a day when nothing goes right and you feel kind of lousy.  You might feel grumpy, lonely, really shy, or just plain pooped.”

The words of this book may sound like a typical, somewhat trite children’s book.  What makes the book stand out are the animal pictures that perfectly illustrate each emotion or action suggested by the text.

When this book came in, I had a group of adults looking through it and laughing at the pictures.  I brought it home, and my ten-year-old picked it up and started laughing at it.

If you’re feeling blue when you start reading this book, I guarantee you’ll still be able to find a chuckle at these faces of animals who seem to perfectly portray human emotions.  The suggestions for cheering yourself up aren’t too bad, either.
