****Northanger Abbeyby Jane Austen Reviewed February 1, 2003.
Signet Classics, New York, 1980. Originally published in 1818. 221 pages. Available at Sembach Library (F AUS) A Sonderbooks’ Stand-out of 2003: #2, Fiction Old Favorites After Pride and Prejudice, Northanger Abbey is one of my favorite Jane Austen books. It’s a bit shorter than some. The plot is simple and fun. In this book, Jane Austen pokes fun at the popular Gothic horror novels of her day. Her heroine loves to read them, and so expects a fearsome setting when she’s invited to spend time at Northanger Abbey. There are the usual misunderstandings in the important game of finding a husband. More good-hearted fun from one of the original writers of romantic comedy. Austenalia Copyright © 2006 Sondra Eklund.
