A Writer’s Guide to Surviving and Thriving in Today’s Competitive Children’s Book Market

by Olga Litowinsky

Reviewed April 8, 2003.
Walker & Company, New York, 2001.  228 pages.

Here’s a basic informational book for anyone interested in writing books for children.  Olga Litowinsky covers the history of children’s book publishing and how things stand now, how to write and submit a manuscript, and what to expect after your book is accepted.

This book is perfect for beginners who are just learning about writing for children.  Those who already have been working in the field will already know much of the advice.  (For example, don’t submit pictures along with the text of your picture book.)  However, they may enjoy having all the information, from conception to publicity, in one place.

I did find the book interesting reading.  I think I'll keep the book on hand in the hope that some day I will get a book accepted for publication and need to know about the editing and publicity process.
