**Dave Barry Turns 40by Dave BarryReviewed June 23, 2004.
Crown Publishers, New York, 1990. 179 pages. Available at Sembach Library (818.54 BAR). I realize that this book is extremely old, but I’m afraid that the material still applies to those of us reaching the magic age of 40. Of course, I simply had to read it in honor of my 40th birthday on June 14th. My advice for reading Dave Barry is to take it small doses. If you follow this advice, you may find yourself laughing out loud. I probably would have found this book funnier if I had really believed that I will soon be facing a disintegrating body. Call it denial, but to me, the funnier parts were the things about parenting, like the part explaining the object of Little League baseball: “to activate your child if the ball goes near him, similar to the way you use levers to activate the little men in table-hockey games.” Still, I can’t think of a better way to celebrate turning 40 than to have a good laugh. This book helped me do it. Reviews of other books by Dave Barry: Dave Barry's Money Secrets Boogers Are My Beat Copyright © 2004 Sondra Eklund. All
