***Dr. Pompo's Noseby Saxton Freymann and Joost Elffers
Reviewed October
24, 2001.
Arthur A. Levine Books. 2000. Available at Sembach Library (E FRE). This book is perfect for this time of year, whether you celebrate Halloween or don’t celebrate Halloween. All of the characters are carved pumpkins! Yes, the creators of How Are You Peeling? and Play With Your Food, are now turning toward story books. Their illustrations are photos of amazingly carved fruits and vegetables--in this case, pumpkins. The expressions are amazing and irresistible! In this book, Dr. Pompo has found a pumpkin stem and tries to figure out what it is. All of his pumpkin friends have different ideas. At last, Ms. Sniffen arrives and, in a stuffed-up nose voice, exclaims with delight that they found her “doze.” Kids love the ending when Dr. Pompo puts it back on Ms. Sniffen--backwards.
