Here’s Tomie de Paola’s latest picture book, a nice story with warm colors.
When Pascual was born, angels sang. He became a shepherd and sang
with his sheep. He was also kind to people. Eventually, he became
a monk. At the monastery, they wanted him to cook, but he didn’t know
how. So he prayed, and angels came and cooked a meal while he was praying.
I must admit, I wish that angels would do that for me. At the end
of the book, Tomie de Paola has a page explaining the true story behind
the legend, and suggesting how the legend got started. This is a lovely
story for sharing with a child.
