*****Anne of Green Gablesby L. M. Montgomery
Reviewed August 2001.
A Sonderbooks' Best Book of 2001 Available at Sembach Library (JF MON). After I read Artemis Fowl and one other book that I didn’t even enjoy enough to review, (I promise I’ll only mention books I enjoyed.) I decided that it was time for a dose of my all-time favorite author, L. M. Montgomery. L. M. Montgomery’s books are the sort of books that I read every few years just to feel that life is good. I felt that my mind was washed and clean after those other less enjoyable ones. (This was, by the way, before I read Wolf Hunt or The Walrus on my Table.) Anne of Green Gables was L. M. Montgomery’s first book, and it’s a masterpiece. It opens when an elderly brother and sister decide to adopt a boy from an orphan asylum and accidentally end up with a girl instead. The character of Anne makes the book great. She is a girl with imagination and a tendency to get into funny scrapes, and she lives in what is reportedly one of the most beautiful places in the world, Prince Edward Island. If you haven’t read the Anne books, you’re in for a treat! If you have, isn’t it time for another dose? I feel the urge coming on to reread all of my 30 or so L.M. Montgomery books, so I think you’ll be hearing more about her in future issues. Related ReviewsL. M. Montgomery ReviewsList in Publication Order Copyright © 2005 Sondra Eklund. All
