by Uri Shulevitz

Reviewed January 8, 2002.
Farrar, Straus, Giroux, 1998.  32 pages.  A Caldecott Honor Book.  Available at Sembach Library (E SHU).

This is the perfect time of year for this book.  A little boy in what looks to be a Russian market square sees a snowflake.  The adults around him, the radio and the television all say it won’t snow.  They are wrong.  The first snowflake is followed by another.  Soon the snow piles up on the buildings.  Eventually, characters from the storefront of Mother Goose Books come out and dance with the boy in the piles of snow.  Great fun.
