81. Feeling Healed

Friday, February 26th, 2016

When I moved to Virginia, almost 10 years ago now, I was hurting.

My marriage had fallen apart.  My husband whom I loved was on the other side of the world and was being as rejecting toward me as he could possibly be.  I was desperately praying, hoping somehow to pray him back.

On Valentine’s Day this year, I was thinking about how church was my lifeline.  My heart was raw.  Almost every week, something would make me cry.  People were so helpful.  They’d hug me, pray with me, listen to me as I worked through things.

I felt so drained.  I felt like I had nothing to give and was always taking from others.  (Though many were nice enough to say that being transparent about my struggles was helpful.)

Five years ago, we were officially divorced.  I still tried to pray him back for awhile.

And then, somehow, God showed me that the Path of Trust was not to tell God what to do.

And God has been healing my heart.

And it dawned on me, on Valentine’s Day — I am happy!  Life is good!  God has blessed me abundantly!  Even my headaches (which I had since 4th grade) are almost completely gone!

Makes me want to look for opportunities to give, opportunities to love.

I am so thankful to feel healed.

80. What’s New in Children’s Books?

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2016

This afternoon I gave a talk at the library for a group of teachers on “What’s New in Children’s Books?”  It was so much fun to have an interested audience!  I went over the latest award winners and told about some new books I’m excited about and let them take Advance Reader Copies away with them.

It feels so good to share something I’m passionate and knowledgeable about with a group of interested people!

79. Prime Factorization!

Saturday, February 20th, 2016

Yesterday I got a tweet from a math teacher in Canada that made my day.

It said, “@ inspired this Valentines # art pattern” and was accompanied by this photo:

It’s just like the chart on my prime factorization sweater or prime factorization coloring sheet — only using hearts!  I love it!

78. Another Snowy Walk

Monday, February 15th, 2016

Today was President’s Day, so I had the day off — and we got snow!

I went for another snowy walk when there was a lull in the afternoon, just before the sleet started.

It was a completely different experience to walk in a few inches of snow instead of a couple feet of snow — but still so beautiful.

77. Headache-Free a Month and a Half

Friday, February 12th, 2016

Tonight I’ve got a mild headache.  It might not even be a migraine — I might be coming down with a bug.  (I’ve got a few other symptoms.)

What this makes me notice?  This is my first headache worth noting this whole calendar year.  And it’s February 11.

This is amazing and unheard of in my life.

And so very wonderful.

76. Ash Wednesday Service

Wednesday, February 10th, 2016

We had a lovely Ash Wednesday Service tonight at Gateway.  A time to contemplate giving God some space in the coming weeks.  I was blessed.

75. My Small Group

Sunday, February 7th, 2016

Today my small group met again for the first time since Christmas.  We’ve meant to meet up sooner, but what with a blizzard and one thing and another, it hadn’t happened.  Meeting together again reminded me how important they are to me.  And how blessed I am to have them in my life.

74. Watching Wheels Turn

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2016

On Saturday, I got to see an actual child use my prime factorization coloring sheet.  And it was music to my ears to hear, as she colored, her say things like, “Oh, I get it!”  I could see the wheels turn, and it was so lovely.
