Old Favorites:
What's new?

Old Favorites are reviews of books that I’ve read before and wanted to revisit. Most Old Favorites are especially well-loved books.

May 5, 2015

Last week I encountered a much-loved book in the library and had to bring it home and read it aloud. The Bears on Hemlock Mountain, by Alice Dalgleish, illustrated by Helen Sewell, is the perfect example of the relentless building of child-sized suspense. Any child will understand why everyone is saying over and over that of course there are no bears on Hemlock Mountain. No bears at all.
